In Barnaul, activists organized a protest against the "Stalin Center" on the anniversary of the Soviet leader's death.
On the night of March 5, activists opposing the "Stalin Center" distributed flyers titled "Barnaul Against Stalin." The flyers detail the number of individuals executed during the Stalinist repressions and feature a portrait of the dictator with crossed-out eyes. "On this day, we remember not the dictator, but the millions of his victims. In recent days, our initiative group has been putting up flyers all over Barnaul, reminding everyone that Stalinism represents pain, fear, and thousands of lost lives. The Barnaul 'Stalin Center' merely capitalizes on the suffering of our compatriots," the activists wrote on their Telegram channel.
One participant of the protest shared with a local outlet that the idea for the protest emerged in December 2024 when children were encouraged to drive away a "liberal barmaid" during a morning event at the "Stalin Center." Today marks the 72nd anniversary of Joseph Stalin's death. The "Stalin Center" was opened in Barnaul in December 2023 with the active involvement of the regional branch of the Communist Party of the Russian Federation (CPRF). It was announced yesterday that the "Stalin Center" will close for a brief reconstruction tomorrow as part of planned updates to its exhibition in honor of the anniversary of victory in the WWII.
