In Russia, two populist trends are simultaneously at play: increasing birth rates and "strengthening traditional values." Occasionally, these ideas clash, leading to amusing fluctuations.
A deputy from Kaluga has proposed that women should wear mini-skirts more often, arguing it would enhance their chances of getting married and boost the nation’s demographics. He referred to those who opposed his initiative as "pedics" (the Russian derogatory term for homosexual men).
“Tarusa’s deputies are urging local women to sport mini-skirts on sunny days to boost Russia’s demographics,” wrote LDPR city councilman Evgeny Rudenko on social media. This sparked a lively discussion among residents, with questions and comments pouring in. Rudenko mentioned that within the LDPR, women “often surprise guys with their mini-skirts,” while indicating that due to the "modesty of Russian women," fewer are tying the knot these days.
According to the lawmaker, wearing mini-skirts significantly increases the chances of marriage. “Only pedics don't like girls in mini-skirts,” Rudenko replied to one critic. To another man who accused him of promoting irresponsibility, he countered, “I’m talking about real guys, not about pedics.”
